So4mo

1 more hour to conclude my first day as a sophomore.

First thing in the morning i watered a small pot of kalanchoe next to my bed. I bought it out of the blue coz my green fingers are itching. Then after bathing, i took a brisk 15 minutes' walk to Lilly hall. The whole campus is alive with so many people! The whole vibrant is highly contagious. I walked into my research lab and dropped some bak zhang for my professor and her lab members as promised for taking care of me during my internship.

First lecture started at 9.30am. The whole lecture hall is filled to the brim! Old friends met for the first time after summer, new friends made sitting at the next seat, new professor cracking up new jokes and giving new instructions for the new semester... I met up with David, a korean guy, and spent a few minutes catching up with each other. The fact that i have been to that lecture hall for the 3rd course now makes me feel old T.T Professor Hollenback, who happens to be my research professor's husband, is an amiable guy. He happens to be a left-hander too, and had problems with the made-for-right-hander projector. His hands were always over the words that he wrote on the tranparency, but unlike the others I found that i wasn't annoyed at all.

The next class is japanese class. After everyone has taken their seat, Fukuda-sensei spoke in rapid japanese straightaway. We were all dumbfound. Then she switched on powerpoint and wrote in English, 'no english allowed during class, only polite requests are acceptable'. So we had to pick up the language like a baby. I think i need to use the polite request 'eego de hanashitemo iidesuka?' (may i speak to you in english?) A LOT. But overall we had fun. Fukuda-sensei was teaching us how to address peers by adding -san behind their last name, and to give us a more realistic example she used celebrity photos. So we knew (ala japanese slang) Nicole Kidman is Kidoman-san, Tom Hanks is Hankes-san, Katie Holmes is NOT Cruise-san but still Holmes-san because Tom finds marrying Katie a 'mission impossible' etc etc. Eventhough Fukuda-sensei was unable to articulate that juicy piece of gossip in english, we all understand well without any translations :P

2 more classes of bio lab and organic chemistry and i was done for the day. Time to shop for books. Came out of bookstore with my wallet a lot thinner. i spent about $500 up till now for 3 textbooks, 3 lab manuals and 1 workbook. It's really expensive, but i was lazy to find a better deal on the net, and plus it takes a longer time to get it delivered.

Shortly returning to my dorm room while i was setting up the internet connection a junior came by to chat. He's from Penang Chung Lin just fresh out from SPM. He was having a bad first day, so being a good senior (:P) i lent him my ear and advised him.

Had a very big dinner at the dining hall afterwards. Man i feel like this whole year is fit to be called a 'delayed-freshman 15' syndrome. (to the uninitiated, 'freshman 15' is a common 'disease' among freshmen who spurge in buffet-style dining halls and ultimately gain 15 pounds in the first year. I wasn't dining hall-fed in freshman year)

More japanese class tomorrow! And bio experiment starts tomorrow too! Very looking forward to attending them..
